Pianoforte Technologies is based in Howick, KwaZulu-Natal, and is run by Mark Davis and his wife Janine, and the business specialises in the tuning, servicing and restoration of grand and upright pianos. We tune for clients in KwaZulu-Natal, the Free State, Gauteng and the Eastern Cape.
Mark began his career in the piano industry in 1994 when he started working for a piano restorer. For the first 10 years he had the opportunity to learn and focus on various aspects of piano restoration. These years of hands-on experience, along with the subsequent years of tuning, servicing and restoration work for clients, coupled with ongoing study, have been instrumental in shaping Mark's career in the piano industry.
Pianos need more than just tuning! A piano should be tuned at least once a year, although it is recommended that it be tuned twice a year. Your piano also needs to be in a stable environment and have periodic mechanical servicing so that it will perform at and sound it's best, giving you and your family many years of enjoyable piano playing.Get Started!
Piano tuning is the process of adjusting the tuning pins and strings of your piano so that all the intervals are musically correct/in tune, with the goal of leaving the tuning pins and strings in a stable condition.
Your piano should be tuned at least once a year, however, twice a year is recommended especially for pianos that are played more frequently. Pianos that are in a more demanding environment can be tuned more frequently than twice a year. You are welcome to give us a call or send us a message for our latest pricing, or if you have any questions.
Piano servicing involves the lubrication and adjustment of your piano’s mechanism to improve and maintain good mechanical performance. This service is required due to the effects of wear and tear, the compacting and settling of the cloth, felt, and leather of the mechanism that takes place over the years.
We service grand and upright pianos. Many pianos are serviceable, while others may need minor repair work while having the service done, and others may need restoration work instead of servicing.
Many older pianos in South Africa are worth restoring and we offer the following piano restoration services.
1. The full or partial restoration of grand or upright piano mechanisms.
2. The replacement of tuning pins, steel wire and bass strings for grand and upright pianos.
3. Cabinet restoration can be arranged, on request.
We only use genuine top quality piano parts and materials in our restoration work, which are mainly imported from a piano supply company in Germany. View our photo gallery for work done.
